General questions
We're an independent General & Life Insurance Agency based in Sotira, Cyprus, operating since 2003. We advise individuals, families and businesses across the island on all categories of insurance life, health, motor, home, travel, liability and commercial.
As an independent agency, we're not tied to any single insurer. That means we compare the market on your behalf and recommend what genuinely fits your needs.
Yes. Paschalı Insurance & Consultants is a registered insurance intermediary in the Republic of Cyprus, supervised by the Insurance Companies Control Service (ICCS). We operate within the strict framework set by the relevant EU and Cypriot regulations, including GDPR for data protection.
No. Our advisory service is free of charge. We're remunerated by commission from the insurer when you take out a policy, and this is disclosed to you transparently. There is no cost to you for meeting with us, comparing options, or receiving a quotation.
Our team speaks fluent English and Greek. Several of our advisors also speak conversational French. We regularly support international clients relocating to Cyprus, so if you need help in another language, please ask we may be able to accommodate.
We respond to every enquiry within one working day. For most personal insurance quotations (motor, home, travel), we can often provide options the same day. For more complex covers (life, commercial, health), a personalised quotation typically takes one to three working days.
Yes, and it's usually very straightforward. We'll review your existing cover, compare it with what's available in the market, and only recommend switching if it genuinely improves your position whether on price, terms, or both. If your current cover is already competitive, we'll tell you honestly.
Life insurance
A common rule of thumb is 8–10 times your annual income, plus all outstanding debts (mortgage, loans, credit), plus an amount for future education costs if you have children. During our review we'll calculate a personalised figure based on your specific situation.
Yes. Most term and whole-of-life plans offer critical illness riders a lump sum paid on diagnosis of a listed condition (typically cancer, stroke, heart attack, and others). The lump sum is paid regardless of whether you can continue working.
For term and whole-of-life policies, yes premiums are fixed at inception and guaranteed for the term. Your age and health at application determine the rate. For some savings-linked or investment-linked plans, premiums may be adjustable.
Yes. Most plans allow increases on specific life events marriage, a new child, taking on a mortgage without full medical underwriting. This is subject to the policy's terms and conditions. We'll explain the options during the review.
Life insurance premiums may qualify for tax relief under Cyprus tax law, and lump sums paid on death are generally free of income tax. Rules can change, so we recommend confirming the current position with your accountant.
Health insurance
GESY provides excellent baseline care, but waiting lists for non-urgent specialist appointments can be long, and choice of hospital or consultant is limited to the contracted network. Private cover adds speed, choice and international treatment options and is worth exploring if extended waiting times would impact your work or family.
Yes. Most of our recommended private plans allow you to keep any registered specialist or hospital of your choice within the plan's network. We'll confirm this during your review.
Pre-existing conditions are typically excluded, or subject to a waiting period (usually 12 months), or covered for an additional premium depending on the insurer and the condition. Full and honest disclosure at application is essential. Some insurers offer "moratorium" underwriting, which covers pre-existing conditions after a continuous symptom-free period.
Yes. Most of our plans offer family rates, and children can typically be added at any time without medical underwriting (subject to policy terms and age limits).
Many plans include emergency treatment while travelling abroad. For planned treatment overseas or extended international cover, we recommend a dedicated international health plan we can arrange this separately if needed.
Motor insurance
A discount on your motor premium earned for each claim-free year. Cyprus insurers typically recognise NCB earned in other EU countries with documentary proof. We protect your NCB wherever possible, and can often arrange protected NCB on comprehensive policies.
On most comprehensive policies, a courtesy car is either included as standard or available as a low-cost add-on. It's usually provided for the duration of approved repairs at an approved repairer.
Yes, subject to licence conditions and insurer acceptance. EU licences are straightforward. Non-EU licences may require an International Driving Permit and additional documentation. Some insurers also apply an additional excess for drivers with less than two years' experience on a full licence.
Drivers under 25 are considered higher risk by insurers. We work with insurers who specialise in young-driver cover and can often add a named young driver at a reasonable premium. Telematics (black-box) policies can significantly reduce the cost for young drivers.
Within the EU, your Cyprus policy meets the legal minimum abroad, but we recommend extending to full comprehensive cover for trips outside Cyprus. This is usually a low-cost addition and provides peace of mind in the event of an accident.
Home insurance
Not automatically. Cyprus sits in a seismically active region, so we strongly recommend adding earthquake cover to buildings policies. It's a low-cost addition that could mean the difference between rebuilding and starting over.
High-value items like jewellery, watches and art should be "scheduled" listed individually on the policy with agreed values. This avoids disputes at claim time and often extends cover worldwide (for items you're travelling with).
If you rent out property, yes. Standard home policies often exclude or restrict cover for tenanted properties. Landlord cover protects buildings, contents, loss of rent and liability, and is tailored to the realities of rental.
Most policies restrict cover after 30–60 days of unoccupancy. If you have a holiday home left empty for long periods, we arrange a policy specifically designed for unoccupied properties.
Accidental damage is often optional. If you have children, pets, or a busy household, it's usually worth adding it covers things like spilled wine on a sofa, a broken TV, or a dropped laptop.
Business insurance
Business interruption (BI) insurance replaces your lost income and pays ongoing fixed costs rent, salaries, loan repayments if a covered event forces you to stop trading. It's often more valuable than the property cover itself, because a fire can be repaired but a lost trading year cannot be recovered.
Yes. Small and medium businesses are the most targeted because they hold valuable data with fewer defences than large enterprises. Cyber cover typically includes breach response, legal costs, notification costs, and increasingly ransomware negotiation and loss of profit.
Yes a "commercial combined" policy can bundle property, BI, liability, cyber and money cover into one document with a single renewal date and premium. Usually cheaper and easier to administer than separate policies.
Cyprus has strong seasonality in hospitality, tourism and retail. We can structure cover around your actual trading patterns, with higher sums insured during peak months and lower during off-season. This is a common and cost-effective approach.
Absolutely. Start-ups can be challenging for insurers, but we work with specialists who understand emerging businesses and can provide meaningful cover from day one including professional indemnity, cyber, and public liability.
Claims
Call us on +357 PA SCH ALI, email claims@paschali-insurance.com.cy, or submit the online form on our Report a Claim page. We'll log the claim immediately, confirm your cover, and guide you through the next steps.
For most policies, claims must be notified within 48 hours of the incident. Emergency services (police, ambulance, fire brigade) should always be called first where applicable. If you're unsure, call us anyway it's better to notify early and add detail later than to notify late.
With us. We act as your single point of contact throughout the claim. We prepare the documentation, submit it to the insurer, follow up on your behalf, and only ask you for information that we genuinely need.
It depends on the type and complexity. Motor claims are often settled in 1–3 weeks; household claims in 2–6 weeks; larger commercial claims can take longer. We give you a realistic timeline at the outset and update you at every stage.
If a claim is rejected, we review the decision line by line against your policy wording. If we believe the insurer has applied the policy incorrectly, we challenge it on your behalf. If the rejection is valid, we explain the reasoning clearly and discuss whether there are other avenues to pursue.
